Network Consulting Services
The Problems:
- Radiology networks move low bandwidth traffic, designed to provide patient and
scheduling information only.
- Radiology network hardware is standard 10BaseT from a shared network hub, therefore all
users share the 10 megabit bandwidth.
- Hospital networks normally have a backbone of some sort running throughout the facility.
- None of the above would function well when the demand of radiology images are placed on
them.
The Solutions:
- Leave the Radiology networks alone to do what they have been doing. Add another
network for the Radiology Images
- Leave the Radiology hardware alone. Add a network switch allowing full bandwidth
for all users.
- Install an additional radiology imaging backbone with drops in each department that may
need access to the images.

Basically you have a choice to make. You can stick your head in the sand
and think that filmless radiology is just a bad dream and live with the nightmare when it
arrives, or you can plan for its arrival and appreciate its performance.
